Misunderstandings about greek life

Most young people come to college without much understanding of greek life other than what they have seen in pop culture and in the news.

It's easy to think poorly of greek life when an outlier group fufills a negative stereotype that conflicts with your moral compass. But, like other issues, you should avoid making generalizations about an entire group based on the actions of a few. Greek life is not a homogenous entity but a collection of hundreds of thousands of distinct people, from all walks of life.

That is why we encourage you to examine greek life on a case-by-case, or fraternity-by-fraternity, basis. Don't let your prior judgements about greek life get in the way of joining an organization which embodies your personality and character.

Our fraternity

This fraternity prides itself on its strong camaraderie between fellow members and the respect it has for all people, in and out of the organization. Our creed, The True Gentleman, calls us to be humble in all of our actions and to put others before ourselves.

Pillars of our fraternity

Leadership

Like any organization, there are many roles which need to be filled to ensure smooth operation. We not only seek out young men with existing leadership experience, but also those who have the potential to become great leaders. Leadership roles take on many forms, from traditional executive board positions, to managing social media, to running philanthropy events. Our national organization also hosts a variety of leadership events throughout the year which a number of our brothers attend.

Community

The social aspect of fraternity life is what compells most young men to join. We plan and host a variety of events throughout the year including sorority mixers, bi-annual formals, "brotherhoods", camping outings, and alumni reuinions. We also participate in campus events like Homecoming Week and Greek Week. However, just like with any group of friends, our brothers are continuosly involved in spontaneous, spur-of-the-moment gatherings that are not formally planned.

Scholarship

Joining a fraterntity should act to enrich your academic career, not destroy it. Our fraternity pushes and incentivizes its members to maintain high academic standing. Our brothers work collaboratively and look to each other for guidance to ensure sucess in the classroom.

Philanthropy

Though there are many philanthropic efforts that we support through on campus partcipation, the two organizations we work most closely with are the Ronald McDonald House of New York and The Andrew McDonough B+ [Be Positve] Foundation. Collectively, we are able to raise awareness and money for each organizations respective issue(s).
